What does Client & Connection information mean?

When reviewing an IrisCX session, Client and Connection information is displayed within the Session Summary. This article helps you understand what information is displayed and how to use it.

When an IrisCX video session has been processed, it is available for review within your workspace. IrisCX records high-level device information and connection speed information to help diagnose and improve our video calling services. This information is available to review from Session View > Summary.

Connection

Where possible, IrisCX logs the connection speed used for the video call.  This is not possible to collect in all cases, so you may see the value left blank for some calls.  This information helps identify when clients have low bandwidth, and when using a one-way video call may be beneficial.

Note that connection speed for a web-based video call can vary depending on the quality of the video and the number of participants. Here are general guidelines for different video quality levels:

  • Standard Definition (SD) Video Call:

    • Minimum: 1 Mbps upload and download speed
    • Ideal: 3 Mbps upload and download speed
  • High Definition (HD) Video Call (720p):

    • Minimum: 1.5 Mbps upload and download speed
    • Ideal: 3-4 Mbps upload and download speed
  • Full High Definition (Full HD) Video Call (1080p):

    • Minimum: 3 Mbps upload and download speed
    • Ideal: 5-8 Mbps upload and download speed
  • Ultra High Definition (4K) Video Call:

    • Minimum: 25 Mbps upload and download speed
    • Ideal: 35 Mbps or higher upload and download speed
  • Group Video Calls:

    • For each additional participant, add an additional 1 Mbps to 2 Mbps to the above requirements.

It's also important to consider network stability, latency (ideally below 150 milliseconds), and minimal packet loss to maintain good call quality.
